What you’re working towards
One feasible coordinate layout and a checked offcut ledger under supplied dimensions and allowance rules; physical cutting remains a separate human step.
Owned synthetic coordinate example under the stated zero-width-line assumption; not a scale-certified print or cutting template.
Make a start
One step at a time.
3 steps
Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.
Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.
01
Paste the dimensions and ask for a layout
Open a text assistant you already have permission to use and start a new chat. Paste the complete prompt below and send it. Expect an eight-row table with six pieces and two offcuts for this particular sample, plus area checks. Do not paste the worked Output; use it after the assistant answers.
Your starting prompt
Use the complete sample brief below to make one feasible coordinate layout. Return the complete requested result, including all pieces, a non-overlapping partition of offcuts and area checks. Explain the coordinate origin. Use the stated zero-width-line assumption only for this exercise. Do not claim an optimal plan, physical cutting or an actual tool test.
SAMPLE INPUT
SYNTHETIC PAPER LAYOUT BRIEF
One rectangular paper sheet: 210 mm wide × 297 mm high.
Leave a 5 mm margin on every outside edge. Coordinates start at the sheet's upper-left corner; x increases rightward and y increases downward.
Need six separate rectangles, each 60 mm wide × 80 mm high. Rotation is permitted, but this sample uses all six unrotated.
For this sample, place the six unrotated pieces tightly together in two columns by three rows, anchored at (5,5). The right offcut must stop at the bottom of that piece block; use one full-width bottom offcut beneath it. These sample-only arrangement rules make the worked-example checks specific; they are not a claim that other layouts are impossible.
For this planning exercise only, pencil layout lines have zero width and no material is lost between neighboring rectangles. No real blade width, cutting allowance, equipment or physical cut is modeled. If planning a real cut, obtain its actual allowance and safe method before using any layout.
REQUIRED RESULT
Give one feasible coordinate plan, not a claim of the best possible packing. List every requested piece once with x, y, width and height in mm. Partition all remaining usable space into non-overlapping rectangular offcuts and list those too. Do not count the same scrap in two offcuts or treat the outside margins as usable offcuts. Reconcile piece area + offcut area = usable area, and usable area + margins = sheet area. Keep a digital coordinate proposal separate from a measured physical result. Do not operate tools or provide cutting-machine instructions.
02
Check the coordinates and leftovers
Read the table next to the original dimensions and open the supplied diagram or CSV to compare. Confirm six pieces, each 60 × 80 mm, and all coordinates inside x 5–205 and y 5–292. Check rectangle interiors, not only total area: no piece or offcut overlaps another. O1 ends at y 245, where O2 starts. Recalculate 28,800 mm² of pieces and 28,600 mm² of offcuts, summing to 57,400 mm² usable area. Keep the 4,970 mm² outside margin separate. Real cutting allowance is absent; digital fit is not permission to assume a physical fit. If a row is wrong, name its ID and the conflicting dimension, ask for the whole corrected table and recompute the totals. Save only the checked proposal in a separate note. Do not cut from a screen-scaled image.
Your starting prompt
Audit the full coordinate table against the original sample brief in this chat. Check every requested piece exactly once, inside margins, orientation, pairwise interior overlap and leftover coverage. Recalculate piece, offcut, usable and total sheet areas. In particular, ensure no bottom-right scrap is counted twice. If a row fails, give a corrected complete table and all area checks. Keep physical fit and cutting unperformed.
03
Use your own sheet and pieces
Start a new chat. Replace every bracketed field below with your own complete, non-sensitive dimensions and rules. Use one unit throughout. Actual cutting allowance must be supplied before a real-use plan; if it is unknown, keep the plan blocked for physical use. Ask for a complete result, then check every row and total against your new values rather than the sample counts. If anything differs, quote the mismatch, request a complete corrected table and check again. Preserve your original measurements separately.
Your starting prompt
Make one feasible rectangular material layout from MY INPUT. List each requested piece exactly once, with ID, x, y, width, height and rotation. Respect all margins and allowances. Partition the remaining usable material into non-overlapping regions; if rectangular offcuts are not sufficient, describe the remaining geometry explicitly rather than double-counting it. Give traceable area totals and separate material loss from reusable offcuts. Do not claim optimality or physical fit.
MY INPUT
Sheet dimensions and units: [replace]
Piece IDs, dimensions and quantities: [replace]
Allowed rotations and material direction: [replace]
Outside margins: [replace]
Actual cutting allowance and how it is applied: [replace, or state unknown and block physical use]
Coordinate origin/directions: [replace]
Other exclusions and human safety boundary: [replace]
Use these values, not the sample sizes or counts. Ask for missing essential dimensions or contradictory rules before completing the plan. Check all boundaries and pairwise overlaps, then account for every region once. Return the finished proposal plus a human measurement/check list. Do not operate tools, generate machine-control code, cut or overwrite the source measurements. If an allowance is unverified, say exactly what remains unresolved.
Optional: improve the result
Compare an allowed rotation without claiming an optimum
This optional extension uses the original sample chat. Return to that chat, or paste its complete Input and checked table again. Do not apply the sample dimensions unchanged to an own-input project. Keep the same six pieces and margins; compare one arrangement with all pieces rotated.
Advanced prompt
For the original sample brief, show a second feasible layout with each of the same six pieces rotated to 80 mm wide × 60 mm high. Keep the 5 mm margins and explicit zero-width-line assumption. Give all six coordinates, a non-overlapping offcut partition and exact area reconciliation. Compare the two layouts by remaining rectangle shapes, not an unsupported claim of optimality. Do not change the quantity or claim a physical trial.

Authored coordinate example; not a recorded AI answer or physical cutting trial.
The 5 mm margins leave x = 5 to 205 and y = 5 to 292, so the usable rectangle is 200 × 287 mm.
ID | Role | x | y | Width | Height (all mm)
P1 | piece | 5 | 5 | 60 | 80
P2 | piece | 65 | 5 | 60 | 80
P3 | piece | 5 | 85 | 60 | 80
P4 | piece | 65 | 85 | 60 | 80
P5 | piece | 5 | 165 | 60 | 80
P6 | piece | 65 | 165 | 60 | 80
O1 | right offcut | 125 | 5 | 80 | 240
O2 | bottom offcut | 5 | 245 | 200 | 47
The six pieces occupy a 120 × 240 mm block. O1 stops at y = 245, where O2 begins, so the bottom-right area belongs only to O2. Shared edges have zero area under this sample's zero-width-line rule. All eight rectangles are inside the usable bounds, and their interiors do not overlap.
Area check
Each piece: 60 × 80 = 4,800 mm².
Six pieces: 6 × 4,800 = 28,800 mm².
O1: 80 × 240 = 19,200 mm².
O2: 200 × 47 = 9,400 mm².
Offcuts total: 28,600 mm².
Pieces + offcuts: 28,800 + 28,600 = 57,400 mm² = 200 × 287.
Whole sheet: 210 × 297 = 62,370 mm².
Outside margins: 62,370 − 57,400 = 4,970 mm². Do not add separately overlapping corner strips.
Usable + margins: 57,400 + 4,970 = 62,370 mm².
This is one feasible arrangement, not an optimality proof. The diagram and CSV agree with these coordinates; the PNG/SVG are explanatory graphics, not scale-certified print templates. Before a real cut, obtain the actual material-loss allowance, revise the plan, measure it on scrap and use a safe method appropriate to the material and person. No printing, measuring, cutting or reuse of offcuts has been performed.
These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.
Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.

A few things to watch for.
Area totals alone cannot prove that shapes fit without overlap. Check their coordinates.
A right offcut that extends the full height would count the bottom-right corner again. Partition leftovers once.
A zero-width pencil plan does not model real cutting loss. Do not use it unchanged for an actual tool or material.
