What you’re working towards
Reconcile item-level handoffs and partial returns without inventing due dates or sending reminders. The worked result is a written example for practice; the AI steps have not been tested.
Your choice also saves this guide’s current worked-example checkmarks. Only this browser; no account or sync. View saved guides

Make a start
One step at a time.
3 steps
Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.
Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.
01
Open a chat and paste the example
Open https://chatgpt.com and choose New chat. Copy every line under Input in this guide into the message box. Then add the prompt below (the instructions telling the assistant what to do) and send both together. Expect a written response shaped like the example under Output. The wording may differ. If the assistant asks for information already in the input, point to that line; if a necessary fact is missing, keep it unknown rather than guessing.
Your starting prompt
Create an item-level private loan ledger from the full made-up log above. Show direction, other person, lending or borrowing date, agreed date if any, return date if recorded, and current state. Keep partial returns separate. Use overdue only when an agreed date has passed. Do not draft or send reminders.
02
Check the specific result
Count four distinct items. Only the thermos has a passed agreed return date. The umbrella and puzzle must be closed, while the easel remains open with no due date. Compare it with the Input yourself. If the response fails a check, paste the correction prompt below into the same chat. Recheck the corrected version before saving it.
Your starting prompt
Reconcile all four objects against the dated log. Correct any merged umbrella/thermos record, reversed borrowing direction or invented return date. Show the final open/closed counts.
03
Try it with your own example
Open a new chat. Copy the prompt below, then replace [PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE] with your own non-sensitive facts and rules. Include the kinds of details listed under Requirements. Send the whole message. Expect the same kind of result as this guide, using your values. Compare every name, number and rule with your input. If something differs, point to the exact mismatch and ask for a corrected complete answer. Save only a version you have checked.
Your starting prompt
Make a private item-by-item lending and borrowing ledger from my log and review date below. Show direction, person label, handoff date, agreed return date if any, recorded return date and current state. Keep partial returns separate. Call an item overdue only when its agreed date has passed. Reconcile open and closed totals. Do not send reminders.
Use only the new input below. If a fact needed to finish is missing, ask me for it before choosing an answer.
MY INPUT
[PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE]
Optional: improve the result
Add a correction without erasing history
Use a newly supplied event to update the ledger and preserve the original note as a correction. This extension uses the worked example. Return to that example chat, or paste its input and your checked example answer into a new chat first. Do not apply its sample values unchanged to your own input.
Advanced prompt
Correction supplied by the owner: the folding easel was returned on 10 May, but this was omitted from the log. Add that event, update the ledger as of 11 May, and show which one record changed. Preserve the other history.
Show, then try
See the shape of the result.
This input is synthetic. The output is a written illustration of the intended result, not a verified AI-tool run.
01 / The starting point
Synthetic input
Made-up example for practice.
Made-up object log; A and B are fictional adults. On 3 May, I lent A two separate items: a blue umbrella and a green thermos. We agreed both would be returned on 10 May. On 8 May, A returned the umbrella only. On 4 May, I borrowed a puzzle from B; no return date was agreed. On 9 May, I returned the puzzle to B. On 6 May, I lent B a folding easel; no return date was agreed. Review date: 11 May of the same year. Make a private ledger only; do not send messages.
Copies text only. For image or file tasks, use the source files named in the steps too.
Written example for practice; not a recorded AI response.
Open items as of 11 May
Green thermos — lent by me to A on 3 May; agreed return 10 May; no return recorded; agreed date has passed by 1 day.
Folding easel — lent by me to B on 6 May; no agreed return date; no return recorded. Do not label it overdue.
Closed items
Blue umbrella — lent to A on 3 May; agreed return 10 May; returned 8 May; closed.
Puzzle — borrowed by me from B on 4 May; returned 9 May; closed; no return date had been agreed.
Reconciliation: 4 distinct items = 2 open + 2 closed. The umbrella’s return does not close the thermos loan. No reminder has been sent.
These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.
Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.
!
A few things to watch for.
An item with no agreed return date is not automatically overdue.
A partial return must close only the object actually returned.
