Make a start

One step at a time.

3 steps

Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.

Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.

01

Try the complete example

Open a text AI chat you already have permission to use. Paste the whole prompt below, from TASK through END INPUT, and send it. The input is source material; do not paste the illustrative Output as an answer to imitate. Expect A dated clean/issued/dirty/in-laundry balance ledger, earliest shortfall and conditional replenishment question. If you receive advice instead of the result, ask for the complete requested result from the supplied input.

Your starting prompt
TASK
Build a chronological projected ledger for clean, dirty, in-laundry and in-use pieces. Include opening and each complete event, preserve the tracked total, and separate shortages from unmet demand. When a requested issue fails, apply the supplied no-partial-issue rule without negative stock or invented fulfillment. Show the earliest shortfall and a conditional owner question.

INPUT
Complete fictional single-linen-type model, individual pieces, no losses. Use tokens only. Monday is 2026-10-19 and Tuesday is 2026-10-20; one shared local clock. Opening Monday 09:00: 12 clean, 4 dirty, 0 in laundry and 8 in use. The eight in-use pieces make the full tracked pool explicit: total 24.
Monday 10:00: issue 8 clean pieces to use, and receive the previous 8 in-use pieces as dirty replacements. Treat these as one combined scheduled event.
Monday 12:00: send all 12 dirty pieces to laundry.
Tuesday 09:00: proposed demand for 6 clean pieces. No partial issue is approved: if clean stock is insufficient, issue none and retain the unmet request separately.
Tuesday 14:00: confirmed-in-this-fiction return of 12 pieces from laundry as clean. Do not automatically fulfill the earlier held request on return.
No purchases, substitutions, earlier return, later dirty receipt, losses or other events exist in this fixture. Build the five-row state ledger including opening and show conservation. Scheduled fiction is not an assertion that real events occurred; no hygiene, staffing or service promise.
END INPUT
02

Check and correct

Add the four stock states in every row: 24 each time. The opening eight in-use pieces are included. Before Tuesday’s 14:00 return, only four clean pieces exist: shortage 2 against demand 6. Issue zero under the no-partial rule, so unmet demand is 6. After return, clean is 16; the held request is not silently marked fulfilled. No stock cell goes negative. Compare with the unchanged source yourself. If anything differs, use the correction prompt, then recheck the complete replacement before saving.

Your starting prompt
Check the answer in this sample chat against the complete INPUT above. Quote each mismatch and its source, then return a complete corrected replacement. If source or answer is missing, ask for it. Do not describe a suggested human trial as completed.
03

Use your own source instead

Open a new chat and copy the prompt below. Replace every bracketed field with your own permitted non-sensitive material, or write unknown. Change the source names, counts, dates and rules together wherever they occur. Expect a complete result using those new values. Compare each source link and calculation with your new input, using the review instructions in this prompt. If a fact or rule is wrong, quote the mismatch and source and ask for a complete corrected replacement; keep essential unknowns held rather than borrowing the practice values.

Your starting prompt
Project my synthetic reusable-linen ledger by exact item type and chronological event. Require a complete opening balance across clean, dirty, in laundry and in use, or explicitly identify an open system with source/sink movements. Apply only supplied issues, dirty receipts, dispatches and returns at their stated times. Separate confirmed model events from uncertain returns. Test proposed demand against clean supply before subtracting; apply my partial-issue rule and record unmet demand separately, never negative physical stock. Show per-event conservation, earliest shortage and owner decisions needed. Recalculate each balance and event order using my counts and dates. Do not claim real issues, availability, purchases, hygiene adequacy or permission to fulfill held demand.

MY INPUT
Item types and opening counts per state: [replace with your source or rule]
Confirmed timed issues and dirty returns: [replace with your source or rule]
Laundry dispatch and return batches: [replace with your source or rule]
Event order: [replace with your source or rule]
Loss/shortfall handling rule: [replace with your source or rule]

Use only MY INPUT for facts, quantities, names, dates and permissions. Ask for missing essential facts or conflicting rules instead of guessing. Creative invention is allowed only where this task and my boundaries permit it. Return the actual complete requested result, a separate unknown/hold list and the source-specific review described above. Do not reuse practice-example facts. Keep this a draft; do not publish, contact people, book, buy or change another service.
Optional: improve the result

Model a delayed return

Optional, sample-only extension. Return to the practice chat, or paste this guide’s complete practice input and your checked answer into a new chat. Show what changes without pretending the delay is confirmed. This does not apply unchanged to your own source.

Advanced prompt
In a hypothetical copy of this sample, move the 12-piece return from Tuesday 14:00 to Wednesday 09:00. Add a proposed Tuesday 16:00 demand of 5, still with no partial issue and no automatic clearing of held requests. Show every state and each unmet request separately. Do not count the same four clean pieces as fulfilled supply for either request. If the complete sample input or answer is missing, ask me to paste it. Keep new variants separate from the original result.

ILLUSTRATIVE AUTHORED OUTPUT
Written for this guide; no consumer AI execution or real-world trial is claimed.

PROJECTED STATE LEDGER — FICTIONAL EVENTS ONLY
Time/event | Clean | Dirty | In laundry | In use | Total | Unmet proposed demand
Mon 09:00 opening | 12 | 4 | 0 | 8 | 24 | 0
Mon 10:00 issue 8; receive 8 dirty | 4 | 12 | 0 | 8 | 24 | 0
Mon 12:00 send 12 dirty | 4 | 0 | 12 | 8 | 24 | 0
Tue 09:00 request 6, blocked; issue 0 | 4 | 0 | 12 | 8 | 24 | 6
Tue 14:00 return 12 clean | 16 | 0 | 0 | 8 | 24 | 6 still held

CALCULATIONS
Mon 10:00 clean 12−8=4; dirty 4+8=12; in use 8+8−8=8.
Mon 12:00 dirty 12−12=0; laundry 0+12=12.
Tue 09:00 available clean 4 versus demand 6: shortage 6−4=2 pieces. Because partial issue is prohibited, all 6 requested pieces remain unmet and no stock state changes. “Shortage 2” and “unmet request 6” answer different questions.
Tue 14:00 clean 4+12=16; laundry 12−12=0. The return does not prove permission to fulfill the earlier request or that its timing is still useful.
Conservation after every row: clean + dirty + in laundry + in use = 24. No physical stock count is negative.

FIRST BLOCKER AND OWNER QUESTION
The first unmet event is Tuesday 09:00, five hours before the stated return. Can the responsible owner approve a different demand time or a separately confirmed source of two clean pieces? Neither is authorized by this fixture. Keep the original request held until a specific revision is agreed. A return marked expected rather than confirmed would need a separate uncertainty branch. No real issue, laundry action or order has been performed.

You’re the final check

Check the worked example.

These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.

Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.

A few things to watch for.

  • Dirty or in-laundry pieces are not usable clean supply. Apply return times before counting them.
  • Recording clean stock as −2 disguises a failed plan as a completed issue. Record the request as unmet and preserve actual modeled states.
